The ingredients

 

  • - 1 box of devils food cake mix (such as Betty Crocker)
  • - 300 ml water
  • - 75 ml vegetable oil
  • - 3 eggs
  • - Orange food colouring
  • - 1 tub of ready made Vanilla flavoured icing (such as Betty Crocker)
  • - 1 tube black cake icing
  • - Blackcurrant fruit pastilles
Preparation
  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4. Place paper cupcake cases in each of the 24 regular muffin tins, or grease the cups’ base. 
  2. 2. Beat the cake mix, water, oil and eggs in a large bowl on low speed for 1 minute, scraping the bowl occasionally (making sure not to over beat); alternatively, stir 2 minutes with a wooden spoon. Fill the paper baking cases two thirds full of batter. 
  3. 3. Bake for 18 to 25 minutes or until a cocktail stick inserted in the centre comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in the muffin tin. Transfer cupcakes to a wire rack and cool completely. 
  4. 4. Make the orange icing by stirring a few drops of food colouring into the rwady made icing and spread on cupcakes. 
  5. 5. Squeeze circles of decorating black icing on to each cupcake; pull the knife from the centre outwards to make the web. Use two pastilles for each cupcake to make a spider - roll out 1 pastille and cut 8 strips for the legs. Keep the second pastille to form the body. Place the spider on the cupcakes.
